Tour Boat Explosion Kills One, Injures 10 in the Bahamas

An American woman was killed and at least 10 others were injured when a tour boat exploded in the Bahamas Saturday.

Citing the Royal Bahamas Police Force, CNN reported the 40-foot chartered tour boat was engulfed in flames when its engine exploded shortly after 9 a.m. local time Saturday in waters off Barraterre island in the Exuma Cays.

The boat was carrying 10 tourists and two Bahamians. Four Americans were airlifted to a hospital in Florida while others were treated at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.

The boat’s captain, who also owns 4 C’s Adventures tour company, was among those injured but has since been released from the hospital.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Exuma branch is currently investigating the incident.

“This is a sad day for Exuma and a sad day for our American friends. We are saddened and our hearts are hurting, but we will get through this together,” said Chester Cooper, a member of parliament for Exumas and Ragged Island, in a statement on Facebook.
