Hersheypark Theme Park Remains Closed

Pennsylvania theme park Hersheypark remains closed Thursday after major flooding in the area continues to threaten the safety of guests and employees.

According to 6ABC.com, officials revealed the Hersheypark, ZooAmerica and the Hershey Entertainment Complex facilities will remain closed as the area continues to deal with heavy rain and flash flooding that has impacted Pennsylvania all week.

The park was also closed Monday and Wednesday, opening for only a brief time Tuesday. In addition to concerns about the safety of guests and employees, Hersheypark was forced to evacuate the animals at ZooAmerica and move them to safety.

The flooding was caused by Spring Creek, which runs through the park, swelling after days of heavy rain. Several roads and bridges were closed Wednesday as flash flooding took its toll on the area.

Officials in Dauphin County, where Hersheypark is located, said the flooding is the worst the area has experienced since Tropical Storm Lee in 2011. The storms also forced local authorities to evacuate nearby residents Wednesday morning.
