Disney Confirms Employee Death

The Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed that an employee has died on the grounds of one of its Orlando resort hotels Monday morning.

The employee, an unidentified male in his late 30s, was found unconscious on a piece of land near the Pop Century Resort, where the resort connects with the nearby Waldorf Astoria Golf Course.

According to NBC News South Florida, the Orange County Sherriff’s Office was called to the scene at about 9:15 a.m. on Monday. The man was later pronounced dead by the Reedy Creek Fire Department.

Although it was not immediately clear what caused the death, Disney is calling the incident a non-construction-related “industrial accident.”

“All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our Cast Members,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort, in a statement. “Our thoughts and concerns are with his family, friends, and fellow co-workers. This is a tragic accident, and we are providing resources and care for those impacted and working closely with the proper authorities to understand how this happened.”
