St. Regis Deer Valley Introduces Namesake Gin

When one thinks of alcoholic beverages in Utah, small-batch distilleries aren’t typically the first thing that comes to mind. More prominent in the state for years were its restrictive liquor laws, many of which have been recently relaxed.

The St. Regis Deer Valley, nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, has rolled out an exclusive small batch of locally sourced gin. St. Regis Barrel Select Gin—named for the hotel and distilled by Alpine Distilling in nearby Park City—will be available to guests patronizing the hotel’s St. Regis Bar from September 2018.

The gin is reported to be juniper-forward, with a floral profile. The mash is soaked with coffee beans prior to distillation for a hint of additional acidity, and aged in new American oak barrels.

Deionized water from a local mountain aquifer creates a dry finish. The custom Sego Lily-shaped glass bottles are a nod to the Utah State Flower.

“The considerable time we invested in the three-day distillation process and months-long barrel aging before going into this beautiful, custom Sego-lily-shape bottle mirrors the extraordinary care and attention with which St. Regis welcomes its guests,” said Distiller Sara Sergent.

“It’s my hope that whether you try the St. Regis Barrel Select Gin in a classic Collins, French 75, a stirred martini or an original St. Regis creation, you will enjoy this little sip of Park City life.”

Cocktail culture is one of the cornerstones of the St. Regis brand identity. The St. Regis Bar is a common element across all St. Regis properties, itself an homage to the noteworthy King Cole Bar at the New York original, where the Bloody Mary was invented in 1934. St. Regis properties around the world create their own locally-inspired versions of the famed cocktail to this day.

The resort’s 7452 Mary, which is made with vodka from High West Distillery, is named for the elevation at which the resort is located and at which the vodka is distilled. The local twist is the piquant celery foam that crowns the beverage, which can be enjoyed throughout the day, from breakfast to a nightcap.

A limited run of two barrels has been produced, so the gin will be available at the resort only while limited supplies last.

The St. Regis Deer Valley is a ski-in/ski-out resort in lower Deer Valley. The hotel has 171 units, including 66 suites that include St. Regis Butler Service.
