One Man Filed Over 16,000 Complaints to an Airport in Under a Year

The BBC reports that an unidentified man who lives within ten miles of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) has filed over 16,000 complaints to the facility regarding aircraft noise. The grievances were filed between July 2018 and March 2019 and, on one occasion, 842 complaints were received by LPL.

The BBC reports that a man who lives within ten miles of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) made over 16,000 complaints to the facility about aircraft noise between July 2018 and March 2019. The man, who has not been identified, lives in the town of Warrington, which is located under the flight path of LPL.

The outlet has also revealed that, on one occasion, 842 complaints were received by the airport. According to the outlet, this volume of complaints means that, “…the man would have had to email the airport on average every 102 seconds without a break to sleep.

LPL’s Noise Monitoring Sub-Committee said that it had made a decision not to respond to the complainant or to investigate his grievances because the sheer quantity of correspondence received from him “seemed disproportionate”.

It has also been alleged that the man would not speak directly to staff at the facility regarding his complaints, many of which related to other facilities.

Commenting on the situation, a spokesperson for the airport said, “The individual concerned, who lives approximately 10 miles from the airport in Warrington, has made in excess of 800 complaints in a single day, at times when there are in fact less than 200 aircraft movements either to or from Liverpool.

Many of these complaints relate to aircraft not even operating via here and whilst staff from the airport’s environment department have visited this individual to discuss these complaints, this individual has chosen not to engage with airport colleagues,” they added.
