Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, un lugar no sólo para Campistas

Throughout the United States and Canada, around 80 camps welcome travelers and seasonal travelers, adventure and camping lovers. The first park was founded in 1969 by Doug Haag and Robert Borkovetz, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The idea to create a camp came up when Mr. Haag took a trip on the local road, while passing cars and campers on the road, he had the idea to give families a destination where they could camp and vacation during the summer. Haag and his business partner purchased 30 acres of land in Wisconsin, which would be the site of the first Jellystone Park Camp-Resort. The inspiration for the name “Jellystone Park” came when Haag heard his children watching cartoons of Yogi Bear.

In the month of April 1969 the construction of the park finally began and three months later the first park opened its doors to the public, the Yogi Bear was a well-known cartoon created by Hanna-Barbera, that is why the owners of Jellystone Park decided make a commercial alliance to associate its parks with such a characteristic character. Two more parks opened between 1969 and 1970, one in the city of Orlando and the other in the city of California. Others followed quickly, in Orlando, Wisconsin Dells, Apple Valley (near Los Angeles), Apopka, Florida, and Glenbeula, Wisconsin. Demand continued to rise and even Hollywood wanted to get involved.

Camps must meet certain standards before becoming a Jellystone Park. Each camp is required to have a minimum of 70 campgrounds and cabins, first-class restrooms, a laundry room, and a retail store of 1,000 square feet (93 m2) or more. They are required to have specific amenities including a pool, game room, playground, movie theater, and 20 ‘x 40’ covered pavilion. Most resorts also offer bars, mini golf courses, and water parks.
