Delta Gifts Free Flight To Hawaii For Retiring Mailman

Delta Air Lines didn’t have to look far to read about the feel-good story of the day.

The airline, based in Atlanta, saw the tweets about Marietta, Ga. mailman Floyd Martin retiring after 35 years as a United States Postal Service worker, including the last 20-plus on the same route.

The original story written in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about his last day on the job went viral, to the point where his friends started a GoFundMe page to help Martin realize a lifelong dream of vacationing in Hawaii.

That’s where Delta stepped in and said, ‘We got this.’

Delta responded to a tweet by the author of the story, Jennifer Brett, and wrote: “A trip to Hawaii is the perfect way to celebrate a wonderful career. We’d love to take care of Mr. Martin’s flight. Let’s connect on the details in DM.”

It was a magnanimous gesture for a man whom Brett described in her article as absolutely beloved by the community and the neighborhood where he delivers to 500 houses a day.

Knowing it was his last day on the job, most residents on his route came out to greet him, many bearing gifts and even more still asking to have photos taken with him.

Later, when his shift was over, there was a block party held in his honor.
