Aer Lingus Passengers Can Soon Book Middle Seat, Reserve Overhead Bin Space

Starting this fall, Irish airline Aer Lingus will begin allowing passengers to book an empty middle seat to avoid having to sit next to anyone on select flights.

According to The Independent, the updated seating purchase policy is part of the airline’s premium AerSpace initiative and will take effect on September 1. The unique seating is only available when booking in the first two rows of the aircraft.

Available on select short-haul flights between Ireland the United Kingdom, passengers will be able to book open seats, reserve overhead storage space, access priority boarding and enjoy complimentary food and drinks.

“AerSpace guests will have reserved seating in row 1 on our most popular routes, leaving the middle seat free and allowing more space to work or simply relax as they fly,” Aer Lingus’ Susanne Carberry told the Independent.

In addition to the perks of booking the middle seat, AerSpace passengers will have access to the airline’s lounge in Dublin and fast-track airport security.

“We are proud to launch AerSpace in response to feedback from our guests seeking a more premium and spacious travel experience when flying short haul with Aer Lingus,” Carberry continued.
