Published

Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral is engulfed in smoke and flame.

Fire brigades are attempting to put out a massive fire that has broken out in the iconic cathedral but flames have already consumed parts of the rooftop and its central spire.

The damage appears to be catastrophic and comes during important Easter holidays which will take place next weekend.

The cause remains unclear.

Annie Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris advised people to stay away from the area to give emergency crews space to fight the fire.

“A terrible fire is underway at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. They @PompiersParis’re trying to control the flames. We are mobilized on site in close connection with the @dioceseParis. I invite each and every one to respect the perimeter of security,” said Hidalgo in the tweet.
