Kidnapped Child Rescued at Cancun Airport

A two-year-old girl was rescued by authorities at a Cancun airport after her nanny kidnapped her and tried to leave for Turkey.

According to Mexico News Daily, Federal Police revealed the unidentified Spanish child was playing at a water park in Tulum with her mother when she and her caregiver went missing.

The mother immediately filed a missing person report and authorities at Cancun International Airport identified the girl a short time later and apprehended the nanny. The unidentified caregiver was found with two plane tickets to Istanbul.

While officials claim the case was not a kidnapping, Mexican authorities said the nanny was being accused of the illegal removal of a minor after she attempted to take the girl out of the country without permission from a parent.

The Quintana Roo Public Security Secretariat said the mother had previously filed a formal complaint against the child’s Turkish father due to alleged abuse.

Once police found the child at the airport, she was returned to her mother in Tulum, while the nanny remained in custody.
