WHY IT RATES: Travel agents working with clients who prefer to support companies that give back will be happy to learn about United’s commitment to disaster relief.—Donald Wood, Breaking News Senior Writer.
United Airlines reaffirms its commitment to lifting up communities in need.
The airline is expanding its disaster relief contributions by launching a Crowdrise fundraising campaign to support those affected by Hurricane Florence, Typhoon Mangkhut, flooding in Western Japan, wildfires in California and other disasters. Donations will support the airline‘s relief partners that provide assistance in the U.S. and internationally: AirLink, American Red Cross, Feeding America, Americares, and Global Giving. United will match the first $50,000 raised and provide up to a total of 5 million bonus miles to give to individuals who make donations of $50 or more.
“Launching this campaign follows the success United found last year, raising more than $3 million to support individuals impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria,” said Community Affairs Vice President Sharon Grant. “United is excited to invite our generous customers, employees and MileagePlus members to once again support communities in need of relief.”
Throughout the Crowdrise campaign, United will work directly with its partner organizations and engage with community leaders to properly address disaster impact and provide assistance to rebuild affected communities. The online platform is currently scheduled to be available for donations through October 31. As the level of impact on affected communities develops, United continues to monitor assistance to customers and communities around the world in need.
