Nestled in the charming town of New Hope, Pennsylvania on the banks of the Delaware River lies Mike Amery’s home, which has been operating as a bed and breakfast for a little over a decade. Originally from the UK, Amery has styled his B&B with exceptional royal flavor, found quite literally in their highly touted English breakfast and beautifully in their stylings of each suite.

Amery has even hosted British royalty, including Princess Diana’s younger brother Earl Spencer. This is not a fact many properties can brag about, even in an area that is full of Revolutionary War history.

Like most B&Bs, it is a place to unwind and relax, converse with others staying at the property, and enjoy personalized amenities you cannot get at a hotel. However, The Inn at Bowman’s Hill is anything but your ordinary bed and breakfast.

“A lot of our guests have told us their time at The Inn felt like they entered a different world. We thrive on being a center for celebration, and with that, have a heavy romantic appeal for couples” said Amery about the clientele The Inn caters to. “It truly is a place to come to if you want to experience something special.”

I agreed wholeheartedly with Mike during our conversation and my stay at The Inn, which is roughly one hour north of Philadelphia and 90-minutes southwest of New York City. I knew upon driving through the gates and being greeted that my experience was going to be a memorable one.

The personalized amenities I mentioned previously has to be one of my favorite parts about this place. Louisa and Anastacio, who help run The Inn and can be found doing multiple things across the 13-acre property, were able to juggle their day-to-day duties while taking care of a handful of people under the same roof. I’ve stayed at places where this type of service is truthfully unheard of.

Louisa gave us a tour of the property and each unoccupied room and suite before arriving at our home for the next 24-hours: The Penthouse Suite. One of four suites available, the 800-square foot suite is comprised of a large bedroom and a separate sitting area that leads to a balcony that accesses to the yard out back. The comfortable sitting area is spacious on its own; spacious enough for two massage therapists to come in and give private massages.

Being out of the ordinary for utmost relaxation most certainly does carry over to the spa-like bathrooms as well. Along with a 2-person steam shower and heated 2-person whirlpool tub (did we mention the couples appeal?), it’s all topped off by a starlit ceiling. An even nicer touch is waiting every five minutes for a shooting star to appear.

Waking up is not a favorite thing of mine to do but hearing the soft calls of The Inn’s free-range roosters in the distance sure does make it a lot easier. It’s even better when you have a full English breakfast to look forward to.

“English breakfast is a very big deal and people really do love it. It’s sometimes the most attractive part of any B&B,” said Amery. “When we were first opening, I was told guests would not want it because of the current health craze, but it’s now by far the most popular item on the menu.”

The Inn offers a choice of three entrees daily, and it’s tough to pass up the full and proper 7-item English breakfast. It lives up to the term “farm fresh”—the organic eggs are sourced from their own free-range hens and herbs come from the herb garden. Anastacio can also help you collect your own eggs!

For those not familiar with the area, New Hope has one of those “cute, small town” vibes—big on the arts, unique shops, and family-owned restaurants—and is surrounded by the history of George Washington’s Continental Army. It’s on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and a close drive away from major metros like Philadelphia and New York.

The Inn attracts visitors from far and wide, and many city folks seeking a romantic getaway. They have also been attracting some of the biggest names in hospitality. AAA has named The Inn at Bowman’s Hill a 2018 Four Diamond Award recipient, making this the 11th consecutive year for the B&B and one of only two properties in Pennsylvania to win the award.

Anyone looking to celebrate an event of any type or couples in need of a romantic escape will fall in love with this property. It’s far from your grandmother’s B&B and surely knows how to put the word breakfast in bed and breakfast.

Rates start at $365 for rooms and $545 for suites. For more information and to book directly, visit theinnatbowmanshill.com/.
